| | The Ricefield Trunk
is a device installed in an embankment used to surround and create an
area with a controlled flow of water for growing rice. In early
America, slave labor brought the knowledge used to make rice a
profitable and productive crop in South Carolina. The floodgate devices
were installed with human labor working with the tides to create the
perimeters for the ricefields. Today the southern plantations still
maintain the ricefields in order to maintain their property lines. The
ricefields today are used for hunting migratory birds. | |
